Updated September 2026
If you're looking for your blog in the Shopify admin and can't find it under Online Store, it has moved. Since March 2025, blog posts live in the Content section: go to Content → Blog posts. Everything else about writing and publishing works as it did before.
Here's where everything sits now, how to do the everyday blog tasks from the new location, and what else you'll find under Content.
What moved, and what didn't
Shopify's changelog put it plainly on March 20, 2025: “We've moved the Blogs section from the Online Store app to the Content section of the admin.” The idea is to keep your content, meaning blog posts, metaobjects, files and menus, in one place, separate from your theme.
| What | Where to find it now |
|---|---|
| Blog posts | Content → Blog posts |
| Blogs themselves (names, comment settings) | Content → Blog posts → Manage blogs |
| Navigation menus | Content → Menus (moved from Online Store → Navigation in November 2024) |
| Files: images, videos, PDFs | Content → Files |
| Metaobjects | Content → Metaobjects |
| Pages (About, Contact, FAQ) | Still Online Store → Pages |
| Themes and the theme editor | Still Online Store → Themes |
Your posts, URLs and theme templates didn't change. A post that was at /blogs/news/your-post is still there. Only the admin menu moved.
Everyday blog tasks from the new location
Write and publish a post
- Go to Content → Blog posts and click Add blog post.
- Add a title and your content. The editor handles images, links, tables and embedded media.
- In Organization, pick the author and the blog the post belongs to.
- In Visibility, choose Visible to publish now, Hidden to keep it as a draft, or set a date to schedule it.
- Add an image, an excerpt and tags if your theme shows them, then click Save.
Set the search listing
At the bottom of each post, edit the Search engine listing: the page title can be up to 70 characters and the meta description up to 320. Many themes add your store name to the title, so leave room for it. Our beginner's guide to Shopify SEO covers what to write there.
Create a new blog or change comment settings
From Content → Blog posts, click Manage blogs, then Add blog, or open an existing blog. Each blog has its own comment setting: comments off, comments that wait for your approval, or comments that publish automatically.
Put the blog in your menu
Creating a blog doesn't add it to your navigation. Go to Content → Menus, open your main menu, and add a link to the blog.
Why the move is useful
The Content section is Shopify separating what you say from how your store looks. Blog posts, menus, files and metaobjects are content: they stay put when you change themes. That matters in two practical ways:
- Theme changes are less scary. Your posts, images and menus live outside the theme, so a new theme picks them up. You rebuild the layout, not the content.
- Metaobjects sit next to your posts. If you keep structured content such as FAQs, author bios, size charts or ingredient lists, it's managed in the same area as your writing. That makes it easier to keep consistent, and easier for search engines and AI tools to understand. We covered why that matters in AI can now recommend your products, but only if it understands them.
If you still can't find it
- No Content section, or no Blog posts in it. Your staff account probably doesn't have the permission for it. Ask the store owner to check your staff permissions.
- Old bookmarks don't work. Re-save your bookmarks from the new location, or type “blog posts” into the search bar at the top of the admin. Our guide to admin search and filters has more shortcuts.
- A help article or video shows Online Store → Blog posts. It was written before March 2025. The steps are the same; start from Content instead.
