Selling Anything Digital on Shopify Just Got Easier

Most of our apps started because we noticed merchants doing the same workaround over and over. Digital Products is no exception. We kept seeing stores trying to sell ebooks, license keys, classes, design files, or music through Shopify and running into the same friction every time. Either they manually emailed the file to every customer after checkout, or they used a clunky workaround that didn't fit their store's design.

So we built one.

What it does

Pasilobus Digital Products handles delivery of anything digital that customers buy from your Shopify store. When the order is placed, the customer receives the file automatically through a secure download link, license key, or PDF attached to the confirmation email. No manual work on your end. No "I'll send it within 24 hours" emails.

The download links are time-limited and tied to the customer's order, so they can't be shared publicly without expiring. License keys can be generated dynamically, so each customer gets a unique key that you can revoke or track separately. For products that need ongoing access (online courses, membership content, recipe libraries), customers can access their downloads from their order confirmation page or their account.

Who it's for

The most obvious users are stores selling digital-only products. Ebooks. Design templates. Audio courses. Stock photos. Software downloads. Music. Patterns. Recipe collections. These stores were the loudest about the gap, and they're who we built it for first.

But digital delivery shows up in a lot of physical product stores too. A bakery selling printable cake design templates alongside their products. A clothing brand offering a free downloadable style guide with purchase. A coffee roaster including a brewing tutorial PDF with every subscription. Anywhere a digital asset earns its place in the order, Digital Products handles the delivery side cleanly.

Gift cards too. If you sell physical gift cards but want a digital instant-delivery option for last-minute buyers, Digital Products handles both kinds.

Why we built it the way we did

A few design choices that matter. Files stay on our infrastructure, not yours. You upload the file once, we host it, and the customer downloads it through a secure link. Your Shopify store doesn't have to deal with hosting large files or managing storage.

The customer never sees a third-party domain. The download experience matches your store's design, with your branding on the email, the confirmation page, and the download page itself.

Refunds and revocations work cleanly. If a customer returns the order or you suspend their access, the download link expires automatically. No manual cleanup.

Multi-language email templates. The download notification email can be customized per language for stores selling internationally.

Reports and analytics. You can see which products are being downloaded, who's downloading them, and when. Useful for spotting unauthorized sharing patterns or just understanding what's working.

Free to install

Like most of our apps, Digital Products has a generous free plan that covers small stores. The paid tiers kick in for stores with larger file sizes, higher download volumes, or specific needs like license key generation at scale.

If you sell anything digital or have been working around Shopify's lack of native digital product handling, this fixes it. Available now on the Shopify App Store.
