Updated September 2026
Halloween 2026 falls on a Saturday, which gives you a full final week of shopping and a weekend finish. It's also the last big moment before Black Friday on November 27. A Halloween refresh works best when it's small, scheduled in advance, and easy to take down on November 1.
Here's a plan that uses what Shopify already gives you, plus the two of our apps that fit.
1. Give Halloween its own collection
Before any decorations, make the seasonal products easy to find. Create a Halloween collection (costumes, decor, gifts, anything orange), put it in your main menu for October, and link it from a homepage banner. If you tag seasonal products, a smart collection keeps itself up to date. Our guide to smart collection conditions covers the traps.
2. Schedule the offer in advance
Create the discount now and let Shopify switch it on and off. In the discount's Active dates section, set the start date, click Set end date and choose when it ends. Give yourself an hour or two after midnight on October 31 so late shoppers aren't turned away at checkout. If you're running more than one offer, check how they combine. Our guide to shareable discount links and combinations explains the settings.
3. Say it at the top of every page
Most themes include an announcement bar in the theme editor's header. It's the simplest place for “Halloween sale ends Saturday” or your shipping cutoff. Start there.
If you want the bar to change on its own schedule, rotate several messages, or show a live countdown to the end of the sale, our Announcer & Countdown app does that, with scheduling, multiple messages and countdown timers built in.
4. Tell people when to order by
A Halloween costume that arrives on November 2 is a return. Work out the last day you can ship with your usual carrier and still arrive by the 31st, then say it clearly: in the announcement bar, on the Halloween collection, and on product pages for anything time-sensitive. When the cutoff passes, change the message to what's still possible, like faster shipping or local pickup if you offer it.
5. Decorate, lightly
Seasonal decoration is the fun part, and a little goes a long way. The free options are a Halloween banner image, a seasonal color swap in your theme settings, and themed product photography.
If you'd like motion, we build Holiday Decorations, a free app that adds animated effects to your storefront without code. For Halloween, its emoji decorations can drift pumpkins or autumn leaves across the page, as in the screenshot below. The same app covers snowfall and a flying Santa for December, fireworks for New Year's Eve, and twinkling lights. You turn it on as an app block in the theme editor, choosing the pages it appears on. It's free on the Shopify App Store, and the help centre walks through setup.
6. Measure it, then take it down
Before you start, note your normal October numbers so you have something to compare with. Afterwards, check sales for the discount and for the Halloween collection. In Analytics → Reports, the Sales by discount codes report shows what the offer actually drove.
Then, on November 1, take it all down: switch off the decorations, change the announcement bar, remove the collection from the menu. That clears the way for Black Friday. If you've never planned one, our post on what goes into a good Shopify drop translates well to a Black Friday launch.
A quick Halloween checklist
- Halloween collection created and in the menu
- Discount created with start and end dates
- Announcement bar with the offer and the shipping cutoff
- Decorations tested on mobile and kept off checkout
- Baseline numbers noted
- A calendar reminder for November 1 to take it all down
